The National Association for Black Veterans (NABVETS) was established in 1969 by seven Vietnam Combat Veterans, to assist veterans returning from Vietnam who needed help with filing basic disability claims. Many of the claims were being denied, and they were not getting the support they needed. They also received little empathy from their own communities. NABVETS’ mission at that time was to “provide administrative assistance to all veterans, their spouses, children, widows/widowers, orphans and all NABVETS members and families”. We continue that mission.
Our mission is to provide a “Better Life” for veterans, active-duty service members, and their families, by assisting them in receiving the compensation, benefits and services that each has rightfully earned and deserve. We:
Our organization provides support for veterans in an atmosphere of respect for them, and their service to the nation. We leave no veteran behind!
